The Grim Lore Sagas
The Grim Lore Sagas is a book series set in a grim and perilous world known as Dunia.
Battles rage amongst the many human denizens of the world, however far greater threats come in the form of other species. Hordes of Orcs and Hobgoblins swell in size with each passing day within the inhospitable climate of The Thwaitlands, while the boarders of Angaul and Vaul lay under siege by the legions of undead warriors swarming out of the Draugrwald forest.
Primordial reptilian beings pour out of the Hinterlands of Mizani seeking not only to restore their once great empire, but also to enact revenge on those who they deem responsible for their subsequent fall from grace.
Worse yet an unknown power stirs somewhere in the uncharted frozen tundra of the north, a danger that has been present for centuries plotting, eagerly awaiting for the right time to hasten the end of humanity and the word itself.
Something must be done, but exactly who or what will be capable of undertaking such a task remains to be seen.

SANGRE SUELO
In the year 1606 A.I. the tropical island of Sangre Suelo was discovered by an Invictan fleet captained by Marco Vasco , the only inhabitants being Orcs that were less technologically advanced than that of those in the known world but nonetheless equally as fearsome possibly more so. Over time the threat of The Wild Orcs of Sangre Suelo were somewhat subdued, being pushed back to an uninhabitable corner of the island beyond Gando's Bridge. The various human denizens of the world sought to stake their respective ownership of the island & control of its bountiful resources. The island of Sangre Suelo became contested ground where war raged on for centuries, with nearly every nation holding pockets of influence & power. After generations of constant battle & bloodshed the populace soon tired of the chaotic ever fluctuating political climate, forming their own independent republic in 1891 A.I. under the leadership of Aita Jaunti, much to the dismay of their former colonial rulers who have since waged many campaigns to regain control, all of which have been thwarted by the ranks of the Sangrian armies which are comprised of a multitude of highly trained diverse soldiers from across the globe. It is the Sangrian's diversity that makes Sangre Suelo a mercenary hub, where soldiers of fortune offer their services to the highest bidder.

INVICTA:
The Invictans believe themselves to be the epitome of civilisation, their society is ruled by an elected emperor who remains in his position until the people call for an election.The cobbled pavements of their cities are patrolled by centurion guards, where baroque marble built museums, theatres, libraries & coliseums stand in all their glory.Though for all their decadence, they are known throughout the world as a military powerhouse. The Invictan Empire came into existence during a time of turbulence & destruction were strange beastmen ravaged the lands spilling the blood of every tribe standing in their path. A man known as Augustus Anastasios united the remnants of the existing tribes in his vicinity & rallied them to stem the tide of Centaur & Minotaur streaming into the lands from the Venandi Valley & Mountains of Laburinthus. Augustus along with a combined force of an estimated three thousand soldiers from the various tribes under his command bravely made their last stand on the sacred Isle of Lumenus a place known to house powers of the supernatural, it is here where the Invictan Goddess of rule & law Sanua appeared before Augustus. Little is known of the words spoken by Sanua in Augustus's vision, however it is said that the already mighty warrior & great leader became imbued with strength & vigor beyond that of mortals. With the battle eventually won Augustus collapsed from exhaustion & blood loss dying soon after. His sacrifice & actions of bravery would see him become a martyr & saint to the Invictan's.
Since that day emperors have been elected to defend the borders of Invicta & expand their form of civilisation to other nations. Through time religious scholars have found in their studies of ancient texts discovered in the catacombs of the Temple of Sanua on the isle of Lumenus, stating that Augustus was in fact the son of Sanua & that she would once again send her son to lead Invicta as emperor once the world has been subjugated.

UBUNTU:
Beyond the great desert, amongst the towering ancient trees of an almost impenetrable jungle lies the Kingdom of Ubuntu.
The people known as the Ubunti are said to be the oldest human civilisation in the known world, ruled by King Athumani Adedeji and Queen Nzinga Adedeji who's royal bloodlines can be traced back further than any other kingdom, sultanate or empire.
The rain forest in which the kingdom of Ubuntu is situated, is an ancient habitat with towering trees that are said to be as tall as mountains. The capital of Ubuntu is a sacred place named Huduma, which rests amongst the roots of an immense ancient tree stump named The Great Baobab. The Great Baobab is a place of major cultural, historical and spiritual significance to the Ubunti people.
The oral traditions of storytelling by the elders tell that long ago the Ubunti were comprised of many small disparate tribes who occupied the jungle, until the day came when all were gathered in reverence of a technologically advanced race of reptilian beings that would become known as The Mizani. These reptilian beings were capable of awe inspiring science that defied the laws of physics which seemed like magic or acts of a divine power to the onlooking humans, feats such their ability to harness copious amounts energy from the earth and the building fortified strongholds atop floating islands added relevance to such beliefs.
Centuries of this symbiotic relationship would pass and on the surface the intentions of both parties appeared to be righteous, however a string of events would unfurl revealing a horrifying truth. People began to disappear, at first only the occasional one or two, then a handful, it became more suspicious than coincidental.
This revelation was brought to light by beings from Ubunti folklore known as The Aziza who appeared as silver flickering orbs, leading the Ubunti to witness the vile acts inflicted on their people by The Mizani. These reptilians were feasting on their flesh, this sickening act of betrayal brought on a great war that would bring the fall of The Mizanian Empire which had almost spanned the globe.
Eventually after countless battles the Mizani retreated back to their fortified sky strongholds, after much deliberation the Ubunti devised their next plan of action to rid the lands of The Mizani for good. They would bring their floating fortresses crumbling down, but this would be no easy task and not without risk or sacrifice. It was then under The Great Baobab that the elders selflessly took it upon themselves to undergo this suicidal quest so that their descendants would live in peace. They instructed their people to seek refuge under the roots of The Great Baobab until their task was completed, they turned and headed to their inevitable doom singing songs of their ancestors telling them to be ready to greet them upon their arrival.
Soon it was apparent that the elders were indeed successful as one by one the reptilian forts fell from skies, the ground shook and terrifyingly loud cracks and crashes echoed through the air. When the dust had settled it was both a joyous and sombre occasion, young and old would weep as they emerged from the shelter of The Great Baobab to discover the devastation of their homeland, even The Great Baobab itself had been levelled now but a tree stump.
The Great Baobab now stands as a monument to the elders and a testament to their bravery. The tropical climate of these fertile lands harvest bountiful crops of every known vegetable, herb and fruit, the Ubunti believe this to be a gift from the Great Baobab which is viewed as the heart of their jungle home and it is attributed to their respect for all life that dwells beneath its canopy, for no animals are killed and no trees are felled within their kingdom. From weaponry to food, clothing and shelter are all provided by the jungle itself, bridges, homes and other structures are formed as the seemingly enchanted wood interlocks and weaves as it grows creating vast cities and settlements in well thought out strategic positions. No one beside the Ubunti themselves knows for sure whether this shaping of their habitat is of their own doing or if it is the sentient intelligence of their woodland home ensuring its own preservation by housing a garrison of warriors sworn to defend it.

Vaul is a place of ice & steel, they say "The act of battle & the blood of foes keeps you warm".
This warrior society holds strength above all in the highest esteem, however it is recognised that only those who posses both strength of body & mind may attain the role of leadership. Bekkrheim is the capital city of Vaul, it is home to Castle Gardar where the throne of high jarl Bjorn Hagahogen resides. Mount Torberg is a sacred site for the people of Vaul, it is protected by a garrison of highly trained warriors known as the Torberg Guard within Castle Halvard which is built into the the foot of Mount Torberg. The Torberg Guard are led by a Jarl named Haldor Steinar, they are the first line of defence against the various monsters who emerge from the shadowy deep caverns within the Mountains of Skadi. At the northern most reaches of Vaul are The Mountains of Skadi, an enormous wall of jagged peaks where the chasms and cave systems teem with all manner of monstrosities, each winter they pour out of the mountains in greater numbers. Many attempts have been made to rid the lands of Vaul of these incursions from the mountains, none have been successful to date resulting in the deaths of countless warriors including some of Vaul's most decorated generals. Little is known of what lays behind these mountains, it is said that beyond is a land of sorcery and chaos named Svartalvheim.

To the west of the great desert is the kingdom of Tah~Seti, originally established by the Setian demigod ruler Sobek who carved the grand city of Aksum within the mountains themselves. Aksum is the capital of Tah Seti, it is built around the hollowed out mountain known as The Fortress of Sobek. The Fortress of Sobek towers over the city, this megalithic structure is the first of its kind designed and was built under the guidance of the demigod himself, now many other cities of Tah Seti house buildings of a similar aesthetic however none stand as large or as grand. These fortified settlements built within hollowed out mountains now spread throughout the kingdom have stood strong against countless siege battles throughout the annals of time. Tah~Seti's namesake meaning "Land of the bow" attests to their martial skill, with archers able to strike with deadly precision known to aim for the eyes of their enemies. The entire populace of Tah~Seti are masterful in the skill of archery, receiving their first bow by the age of three. Although known for their expertise in archery the kingdom of Tah~Seti also boasts an impressive infantry, along with the greatly feared Kandake warrior queens who ride into battle atop mighty war elephants.The city of Kandake is a fortified settlement home to the renowned warrior queens of Tah~Seti, great leaders and fearless combatants. In the centre of the city stands a great pyramid named The Tomb of Kandaka, here is the resting place of the late queens of Tah~Seti. Towering over the bustling streets of Kermaketema stands an immense pyramid named The Tomb of Qores, here the late Kings of this land have been laid to rest since the dawn of the kingdom. Meroeketema is the religious epicentre of the Kingdom of Tah~Seti, housing many temples dedicated to Sobek.The city is garrisoned by a knightly order known as The Knights of Kalkidan who reside within the walls of Castle Kidani, built in the city centre. The Knights of Kalkidan zealously follow the teachings of Sobek, administrating justice on his behalf. Kushketema is a port city, engaging in trade with the rest of the world. Here goods such as ivory, gold, silver, ebony, papyrus, brass, iron and precious stones are sold.

CATHAN
In the far east lies a civilisation steeped in mystery, the outside world knowing little of the secrets beyond the towering gates of The Hongda Wall. Only a handful of outsiders, such as ambassadors and nobles from other nations have ever been permitted access to witness for themselves the grand temples dedicated to the Angel Dragon and the military might of Cathans shiro castles in all their splendour. The Hongda Wall is immense reaching along the entire length of the Western border of Cathan to the borders in the north, blocking incursions from the enemies of their Empire. It is garrisoned by the renowned standing army of Nendo, who are not mortal men but stone constructs magically imbued with the ability to come to life through the lore of Chi, these statues stand guard tirelessly holding their line against any force cutting down all foes who dare to approach. Tokai is the capital city of Cathan and home to The Teikoku Palace of Emperor Takashi Ryuunosuke, the palace was built under the instruction of the inaugural emperor of Cathan named Tenshi Long, who resided in its halls for centuries before his untimely death, since then all of Cathans emperors have graced its halls.The Tenshi Temple is a place of worship, where the people of Cathan come to praise and make offerings to their beloved deity Tenshi Long, guarded by The Sohei warrior monks the temple houses a shrine where the mummified remains of the Angel Dragon reside. Built high above the clouds in the mountains of Tamahagane a place rich in metals which are mined for smelting in the forge known as Kajiya, home to expert blacksmiths called The Tiejiang who have mastered the art of folding steel making thin lightweight blades that are both razor sharp but also extremely durable. Akario Valley was for decades the site of bloody battle between the armed forces of Cathan and countless incursions by Orcs and Hobgoblins pouring out of the Twaitlands to the west, with so much blood being spilt that the soil became red. The threat from the neighbouring Twaitlands has now became less frequent seeing Akairo Valley go from a gore stained battlefield to an enormous poppy field, which has made for a bountiful trade resource. Shogyo Utsumi is a bustling port city where the Cathanese engage in global trade. It is by far the most cosmopolitan city in Cathan, where foreign traders have access to their own designated quarters of the city, though they are forbidden outside these boundaries. The city of Long Kou is a major trade hub for Cathan, though it is not as cosmopolitan as Shogyo Utsumi, foreign traders are allowed access to their own designated quarters but must leave within a day. Bushi Shiro houses the elite infantry of the Cathanese Empire, these highly trained decorated warriors wield razor sharp katana swords, they wear armour made of lacquered wood and helmets with ornate face masks. Hanto Shiro is the epicentre for covert operations in Cathan, here stealth and espionage are taught to aspiring Ninjas by the Shinobi Jonin. The island of Zensho is an outpost for the Cathanese Empire, home to Zensho Shiro the stronghold of the renowned Lion riding Samurai called the Shizi Bushi. Here veterans train aspiring Samurai preparing them for their initiation ritual which takes place on Shizi Xian. The young men and women are tasked with acquiring a pelt of one of the ferocious Lions that occupy the jungles upon the island, if they return with their prize and their lives intact they are rewarded with their own Lion mount as a member of the Shizi Bushi.

Tokai is the capital city of Cathan and home to The Teikoku Palace of Emperor Takashi Ryuunosuke, the palace was built under the instruction of the inaugural emperor of Cathan named Tenshi Long, who resided in its halls for centuries before his untimely death, since then all of Cathans emperors have graced its halls.The Tenshi Temple is a place of worship, where the people of Cathan come to praise and make offerings to their beloved deity Tenshi Long, guarded by The Sohei warrior monks the temple houses a shrine where the mummified remains of the Angel Dragon reside. Built high above the clouds in the mountains of Tamahagane a place rich in metals which are mined for smelting in the forge known as Kajiya, home to expert blacksmiths called The Tiejiang who have mastered the art of folding steel making thin lightweight blades that are both razor sharp but also extremely durable. Akario Valley was for decades the site of bloody battle between the armed forces of Cathan and countless incursions by Orcs and Hobgoblins pouring out of the Twaitlands to the west, with so much blood being spilt that the soil became red. The threat from the neighbouring Twaitlands has now became less frequent seeing Akairo Valley go from a gore stained battlefield to an enormous poppy field, which has made for a bountiful trade resource. Shogyo Utsumi is a bustling port city where the Cathanese engage in global trade. It is by far the most cosmopolitan city in Cathan, where foreign traders have access to their own designated quarters of the city, though they are forbidden outside these boundaries. The city of Long Kou is a major trade hub for Cathan, though it is not as cosmopolitan as Shogyo Utsumi, foreign traders are allowed access to their own designated quarters but must leave within a day. Bushi Shiro houses the elite infantry of the Cathanese Empire, these highly trained decorated warriors wield razor sharp katana swords, they wear armour made of lacquered wood and helmets with ornate face masks. Hanto Shiro is the epicentre for covert operations in Cathan, here stealth and espionage are taught to aspiring Ninjas by the Shinobi Jonin. The island of Zensho is an outpost for the Cathanese Empire, home to Zensho Shiro the stronghold of the renowned Lion riding Samurai called the Shizi Bushi. Here veterans train aspiring Samurai preparing them for their initiation ritual which takes place on Shizi Xian. The young men and women are tasked with acquiring a pelt of one of the ferocious Lions that occupy the jungles upon the island, if they return with their prize and their lives intact they are rewarded with their own Lion mount as a member of the Shizi Bushi.

Among the arid shifting sands along the eastern coast of the great desert is the Caliphate of Al~Mexia. Here settlements nestle along the banks of rivers & lakes, dwarfed by enormous ancient ziggurats decorated with ornately carved granite heads depicting every respective Sultan of these lands since the inception of the Caliphate of Djinn Si'lat. Atop an ancient towering ziggurat stands The Temple of Magi, this place is home to The Magi Priesthood & Khalifa Djinn Si'lat who is the ruler of Al~Mexia. As to what exactly happens within the walls of this temple remains a closely guarded secret, with only members of the Magi cult & the Sultans of Al~Mexia being permitted access. Wahah is the capital city of Al~Mexia which sits beside Lake Wahah for which the city gets it's name, it is a place of decadence where Sultans & those of noble standing enjoy life's pleasures all of which are readily available within the city walls.The city is built around the grand palace of sultan Sundjata Gamesh. In the centre of the city of Waqet there stands a giant column like rock formation named Muzawla which acts as a sundial allowing for the gauging of the time & date. The City of Waqet is governed by a sultan named Shulgi Nammu. The port city of Swahil is a place where many traders from across the globe visit to acquire exotic goods & spices which Al~Mexia is famously known for. The city houses the palace of a sultan known as Ninurta Sassanid. Askaria is a fortified outpost which houses the forces of the Mechinkan military, it is also a training barracks for aspiring soldiers.The population is made up of elite soldiers, trainees and their families, it is also home to the palace of the tyrannical warmongering sultan named Shamshi Assur.

The armaments of Angauls military are forged in Val Ferrier, here the Taubra chant archaic incantations over the smelting iron not only strengthening it tenfold but also making it less encumbering. The Temple of Paladin is a religious site of major significance built upon the hallowed ground where Arthuen bid farewell to the lands he bestowed civilisation & chivalry upon, to return to his knightly duties as he bravely set forth on his lone quest across the Thwaitlands. Songs of his adventures are sung by bards & chronicled in legends told across the land, it is said that he carved a bloody path of righteous vengeance through the Thwaitlands bringing a purge the likes of the devious Hobgoblins & brutal Orcs had never before seen, for none of their kind were seen in the lands of Angaul for centuries thereafter. The Temple of Paladin is home to the Shine of Arthuen & houses the knightly order of Paladin who are oath bound to protect these hallowed grounds. Pilgrimages are made here each year attended by nobles & surfs alike, however never at the same time those of noble blood are always permitted entry first. Within the halls of the shrine stands a towing statue made of solid iron built in honour of Arthuen, it is centrepiece of a grand hall where tapestry & stained glass depictions document his devotion to chivalry & valour. It is said before Arthuen set forth on his crusade across the Thwaitlands he knelt in prayer on the very spot where there shine now stands, his likeness is positioned kneeling down facing the mountain pass leading to the east. The province of Chevaleresque is a place of great beauty where the Temple of Chivalry stands in all its splendour, here Castle Chevaleresque houses the Order of the Knights of Chevaleresque who are guardians of the Temple.

Keya covers a large landmass of differing environments ranging from vast open plains & deserts to dense woodlands & mountainous regions. From the open expanses of Tatanka plains to the thick woodlands beyond the Sapa Mountains all belong to the Keya Nation, led by Chief Tatanka Witko he & his people are the wardens of this unspoiled land. Oyate is the capital city of Keya & a sacred place for its people, long ago a great leader named Dekanah Wideh gathered the Chiefs of the many tribes of the lands, forging pacts of kinship, unifying the people to form the confederacy now known as the Keya Nation. Wicoti Wakan is the religious epicentre of the people, home to the Wicasa Wakan who are holy men & shamans. Here the Keyan people come to seek spiritual guidance & chosen individuals are taught totem magic which is the ability to harness the powers of animals such as imbuing themselves or others with the strength of a bear or being able to see through the eyes of an eagle soaring high in the skies above. The sacred ground known as Maka Wi is a place of great significance to the Keyan people, they believe this place to be the site where all life was first created being that it is the first piece of ground within their lands to catch the warm life giving rays of the sun each morning, pilgrimages are made here some for spiritual reasons, others seeking answers or guidance. Wakpa Sosho is a settlement that rests beside the Snake River, on the southern coast of Keya, here the Keyan people engage in trade with other human denizens of the world. Once Wakpa Sosho was a small fishing village, however now that the various nations of the world have began venturing further afield on the high seas it has became a major trade hub, the Keya Nation trade Tobacco, Fur Pelts & other goods that can only be found in their lands such as herbal medicines from Mount Pejula. Mount Pejula stands like a stone pillar reaching skyward from the surrounding plains, in its shadow grow an abundance of plant variants which are gathered for their medicinal properties by the healers of the Keya nation who are known as Pejuta Wacasa.
